Lactarius deliciosus Smith & Hesler var. olivaceosordidus. Cap 4-8cm, flatly convex with an incurved margin, faintly striate, becoming depressed at the disc; gray tinged with yellow, becoming orange then more olive to green overall, with faint concentric bands of color; slightly sticky then dry. Gills decurrent, close, narrow; orange becoming dirty yellow. Stem 30-50 x 3-l0mm, slightly larger toward the base; dull reddish orange washed overall with green. Flesh thin; orange near the gills, olive in the cuticle, and yellowy in the middle. Latex muddy orange, scanty. Odor normal. Taste mild or bitterish. Spores subglobose to ellipsoid, amyloid, 8.5-10.5 x 6.5-8μ; ornamented with heavy bands and crests forming a partial reticulum, prominences about 0.5p high. Deposit bright cream. Habitat gregarious under Sitka spruce. Found in the Pacific Northwest. Season October-November. Edibility not known- avoid. |
